Warm leather and rich tobacco, combined with citrus, woods and rum.
The Ernesto Candle by Cire Trudon transports you to Havana; amid the sizzling sun of the Cuban revolution, a hotel stands, cool and dim. A meeting place filled with resolute faces, each framed by the curling of cigar smoke. The air is filled with the scent of warm leather and rich tobacco, combined with woody oak, cloves and amber. Uplifting top notes of bergamot, grapefruit and rum break free.
“One of Cire Trudon’s signature bestselling fragrances, Ernesto’s combination of smooth and smoky tobacco, leather and citrusy rum make it the ideal candle for revolutionary homes. The fragrance has a Cuban warmth to it that’s both inviting and sensual – it will instantly transport you to Havana. “
– Elizabeth, Osmology Founder
“Cire Trudon are something of a legend in the world of scented candles. Hand-poured into opulent Italian green glass vessels, their home fragrances are perfectly balanced and complex compositions. Our favourite scent is Ernesto, which smells like pipe tobacco and booze, and leather armchairs. Papa Hemingway would’ve been proud. Packaged lovely in a light blue box, the Cire Trudon Ernesto Scented Candle sits in a hand-blown glass case which features a signature gold emblem. We can tell you now that it looks as good as it smells. This candle is long lasting, classy and most of all, the quality is superb. We love every.single.other.thing than the price tag!”
“Cire Trudon’s elegant glass jar holds the surprisingly masculine Ernesto Classic candle, scented with tobacco, leather, and wood.”
“There aren’t many macho candles, but the Ernesto is a musky blend of leather and tobacco. This is probably how Fidel Castro smelled when he was leading the Cuban revolution. It was strangely pleasing. Plus, I loved the ridiculous description: “In a hotel of Havana, sizzling under the stubborn sun of the Revolution, fierce overtones of leather and tobacco meddle with resolution the waxy silence of wood. Breaking out of the cool dimness, sly grimaces emerge, framed by the smoke of cigars and the barrels of guns.” I would definitely burn the Ernesto in my home office, if I had one.”
“Perhaps it is not only beauty you’re after but extravagance, and lots of it. Scented candles are an inherently indulgent item after all, so why not abandon all pretence at moderation with a candle that bellows luxury. When it comes to showing off, bigger is always better, and you can’t get much bigger than the three kilogram Cire Trudon Ernesto Candle. With a scent that is allegedly ‘framed by the smoke of cigars and the barrels of guns’ – being low key is clearly not the point here.”
“Parisian candlemaker Cire Trudon was founded on Rue Saint-Honoré in 1643, and has been developing its signature fragrances ever since—it even provided the scents for the royal court of Louis XIV (you can, in fact, buy a wax bust of the former king to burn at your leisure) before outliving Marie Antoinette and going on to provide candles for our favourite celebrity homes. Each candle is still handmade in the brand’s Normandy factory, too. You can’t get more authentically French than that.”
“Ernesto, however, is a scent we would recommend for an elegant living room shrouded in the dark brown colour of leather and wood, and red fabric. It’s the scent named after revolution icon Che Guevara, and evokes the image of smokes of cigars and the barrels of guns.”
“Set the mood with a leather scented candle, rather than opting for a literal leather accessory, home good, or notebook.”
“I also love Cire Trudon’s Ernesto candle. I’m really serious about lighting candles for people when they come over. And this one burns really nicely.”
As the oldest candle maker in the world, Cire Trudon brings centuries of experience and expertise to the crafting of luxury candles. Working with the world’s top contemporary noses, Cire Trudon’s candles illuminate any room in which they are lit with distinctive warmth, light and scent.
- Keep your candle in a dry and temperate environment, between 60 and 80° F.
- The first use of your candle should occur within the two first months after its reception.
- For optimal burning, trim your wick to 5mm before each lighting to avoid smoking and overheating.
- Always protect the surface on which the candle sits.
- The first burn of any candle should be long enough for the entire top layer of wax to liquefy. This will ensure an even burn for each light.
- To preserve the fragrance, do not burn your candle for more than 3 hours straight during the first third of the candle and 1 to 2 hours during the remaining.
- Never leave a candle burning unattended or within reach of drafts, pets, or small children.
- Candle jar will be hot after burning, so allow the wax to cool completely before handling
- Should the wick require centering, gently readjust to correct position when the wax is still molten. Allow the candle to solidify before relighting.
